Fire forces early morning evacuation at Maroochydore beachfront units

Emergency services were on scene fighting a fire at a ritzy waterfront unit block early Saturday – causing residents to be evacuated for nearly an hour.

Firefighters were called to a garage fire at Maroochydore, along The Esplanade, at 3.30am.

A QFES spokeswoman said four crews were on scene battling the blaze.

She said the fire was out by 3.45am, however residents were evacuated and unable to return inside until 4.30am.

The QFES spokeswoman said it was a small garage fire which did not spread elsewhere.

“The fire investigation unit won’t be there until much later this morning,” she said.

Queensland Police Service confirmed everyone was accounted for.

Paramedics remained on standby at the scene of the garage fire. No patients required treatment.

WEDNESDAY

A horror two-vehicle crash has ended with a caravan flipping and landing on its roof on the Bruce Highway – closing multiples lanes and causing major delays.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash northbound on the Bruce Highway, Beerburrum, 1km north of Steve Irwin Way, at 10.10am, on Wednesday.

A QFES spokesman said two crews were on the scene.

“A car towing a caravan has rolled and landed on its roof,” he said.

“It flipped and is badly damaged. Possibly destroyed.

“It’s blocking the left hand lane.”

a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were on scene redirecting traffic.

“There’s two lanes blocked,” she said.

“Traffic is backing up.”

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said their crews had left the scene of the crash.

“Everyone was okay,” he said.

No one needed treating or transporting to hospital.

TUESDAY

A two-vehicle crash on a busy Sunshine Coast road is causing serious traffic delays for commuters this morning.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman confirmed two crews were on route to a two-vehicle crash at 7.20am this morning.

He said the crash was at Dixon Rd on the Sunshine Motorway on ramp, at Buderim.

A QFES spokeswoman said it was a minor nose-to-tail crash.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed there were traffic delays – however said it was a minor crash.

QAS was also on scene.

MONDAY

A motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries in a crash at Coolum Beach just after midday on Monday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were called to a crash involving a car and motorbike on Focal Ave, Coolum Beach around 12.30pm on Monday.

A man in his 50s was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in serious condition with head injuries.

The spokeswoman said the two people who were travelling in the car were uninjured in the crash.

A Sunshine Coast health spokeswoman said as of Tuesday the male motorcyclist was in a stable condition.
