Parting is such sweet sorrow for a Sunshine Coast book lover who may have Australia’s biggest collection of Mills and Boon novels.

Kerin O’Sullivan, 75, has been buying the popular titles religiously every month for more than a decade.

But now the lover of mystery and intrigue is trying to downsize her affair with the popular stories.

“I’m very sad, I’ve kept a few – probably only 20 but as I’m looking at them I could probably keep a few more,” Mrs O’Sullivan said with a laugh.

The Pelican Waters mother said there was probably about 2500 books in her collection, despite her stack having already been pruned out once before.

She said she liked spy and suspense mysteries.

“I like a character that’s in a book so I keep them, I tend to re-read them,” Mrs O’Sullivan said.

“I usually get 10 books on average but I’ve been trying to cut down to three.

“Now I send my husband, he’s a bit more conservative and buys just what I’ve said.”

Daughter Deb Robotham is visiting from Victoria to help her mum with the clear out.

“Every month when the books come out mum sends dad off to buy the latest release,” she said.

“She reads them and puts them in the cupboard and here we are.”

Mrs O’Sullivan admitted she may have hidden away a few titles from the pile when her daughter wasn’t watching.

“It was good that Debbie was up here because I don’t know if I could’ve just taken them out and put in bags because I would’ve still being trying to read them.”

The books are up for grabs on Facebook Marketplace.
