Luxury eco-cabins metres from crocodiles are set to be built at Australia Zoo, offering a holiday experience unlike any other.

Construction will soon start on four luxury eco-cabins overlooking a billabong containing freshwater crocodiles at Australia Zoo’s Crocodile Hunter Lodge.

The two-storey, two-bedroom cabins will be fitted with features including a plunge pool, heated floors, and stone bathtubs.

There are already 16 cabins at the luxury accommodation site, which opened on Irwin Rd, Beerwah in June 2022.

In addition to offering a place for people to stay, the accommodation site nearby the world-famous zoo is also home to red kangaroos, emus, koalas, and echidnas, and soon to be joined by freshwater crocodiles.

Australia Zoo owner and wildlife conservationist Terri Irwin is excited to see works start on the new cabins this month.

“We’re thrilled to begin construction on the next set of cabins, creating an exceptional experience for guests in their cherished home away from home,” Mrs Irwin said.

“The Crocodile Hunter Lodge offers a unique experience as guests are surrounded by beautiful wildlife and the natural environment, receiving plenty of inclusions in their stay such as unlimited entry to Australia Zoo, complimentary breakfast at our fine-dining venue, Warrior Restaurant and Bar, exclusive access to the lodge’s infinity pool and more.”

Caloundra MP Jason Hunt said the state government was proud to support the project, which was part-funded by the $15 million first round of the Growing Future Tourism program.
