An Australian surfing legend has placed her Noosa beachside cottage on the market, offering buyers a rare chance to snap up a piece of local history at a bargain price.

A Sunshine Coast surfing legend has placed her beachside cottage on the market, offering buyers a rare chance to snap up a piece of local history at a bargain price.
Property data shows the humble cottage at 13 Mackerel St on Noosa’s North Shore is currently owned by surfing champion, Kim McKenzie, known to many as the Mooloolaba ‘Shark Girl’.
Ms McKenzie quickly became a local and national celebrity after winning back-to-back surfing championships in the 1970s.
The home is set on a 600sqm block and consists of two bedrooms and a separate loft space, just 80 steps away from the beach, according to the sale listing.
Property data stated this is the first time the property has been on the market in nearly 27 years, last selling in 1997 for $182,000.
Real estate agent, Janet Kake, said the home reflected the rich local history of the Teewah village and community.
“As you can see in the photos there are a lot of surfboards in the house, a lot of those surfboards all have history so it is definitely a house with soul,” Ms Kake said.
Ms Kake said the $1.55m price tag attached to the property represented unparalleled value for location and lifestyle.
“It really is a secret gem, when most people come to buy a beach house in Noosa people don’t even know about Teewah Beach,” Ms Kake said.
“They are all very tightly held properties, and it is very much a beach community of fisherman, surfers and boating people.”
Ms Kake said she did not expect the properties in Teewah to sell at prices under $2m for much longer.
“If you go 10 minutes down the road in a boat and you’ve got Noosa properties selling for $10m, $20m,” Ms Kake said.
“Even at Sunshine Beach you are up in the multi-millions for all those homes.”
Ms Kake said those interested in purchasing the beach shack were invited to inspect the property by air, with helicopter tours available.
