Indie Fitzgerald’s Sunshine Coast family has invited the community to join in her funeral

The parents of 9-year-old Indie Fitzgerald, who lost her battle with a rare genetic disorder, have invited the community to join in as they farewell her on Wednesday.

The parents of 9-year-old Indie Fitzgerald have invited the community to join as they farewell their daughter.

Tributes poured in for the “gorgeous, cheeky” girl who lost her battle with a rare genetic disorder on Wednesday last week.

Indie leaves behind mum Bec Lawford, dad Dean Fitzgerald and little sister Ivy.

“I will forever be grateful for the time I had with her and the memories I got to share with her,” Ms Lawford said.

“Indie taught me strength, courage, compassion and patience.”

Indie was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder in 2015, which took her ability to walk and talk by the time she was 4.

Her story first captured hearts around the Sunshine Coast in 2016 and since then thousands of people around the country have followed Indie’s journey.

Indie’s funeral will be held on Wednesday morning and Ms Lawford welcomed people who had been touched by Indie’s story to attend via a live stream of the service.

“Thank you everyone for the love and support we have received over the years and continue to receive,” Ms Lawford said.

“I think that it is only right that you have all followed Indie’s journey from the beginning, that you should be able to say goodbye to her too.

“At the end of the service we will be blowing bubbles outside, ‘blowing kisses to heaven’.

“If you would like to join in, that would be beautiful.

“Indie loved bubbles.”

The service will begin at 10.15am on Wednesday and the live stream can be found here.
