A RACE horse trainer convicted of animal cruelty and neglect has been banned from having horses until 2020.
Currimundi man Graham Robert Pollock, 54, pleaded not guilty to committing animal cruelty breaching his duty of care to an animal, ahead of a hearing in Caloundra Magistrates Court yesterday.
He was found guilty and banned from having horses for three years, ordered to serve two years probation and pay legal and court costs of $1589.80.
An RSPCA inspector had been to Pollock's Yandina paddocks three times between April and August 2015, as well as a Caloundra racing stable, to inspect horses in his care.
One horse in was euthanised after an untreated wound turned septic, another was severely emaciated and a witness accused Pollock of repeatedly hitting another horse with a shovel and stomping on the animal's head when it fell to the ground, which he denied.
RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said Pollock's actions were deplorable.
"The fact that there has been a three-year prohibition order is good news," he said.
