A former Sunshine Coast radiologist who was suspended from his role had left graffiti and knives sticking in walls as part of his acts in terrorising a woman.
Cameron Ross McKean, 49, donned a blue suit for his sentencing in Maroochydore District Court on Monday, July 14, where he pleaded guilty to unlawful stalking, intimidating, abuse or harassment by threatening violence and two counts of wilful damage.
Crown prosecutor Alex Stark shared details to the court how McKean “terrorised” a woman over the course of about a month.
The offending involved bombarding her with messages, including more than 100 emails which were “vile and demeaning in their sexual content” as well as destroying the interior of a home the woman had been living in after she fled.
Mr Stark told the court when police arrived at the home, they found belongings strewn everywhere and knives stuck in the walls before they noticed McKean leaving out a back door. He was later found at his father’s home.
Police also found doors off their hinges, demeaning graffiti in the kitchen, lounge and walls as well as torn clothing stuffed into holes made in the walls or hung off ceiling fans, the court heard.
Mr Stark said the woman’s father, who visited the property, also found a picture of his daughter which appeared to have been stabbed, including a hole placed directly between her eyes.
Objects had also been imbedded into the garage walls, and the woman’s underwear was thrown on the roof, the court heard.
Overall, the property’s walls and ceiling plaster, furniture, pool, garden bed and the woman’s belongings were all damaged.
In total, more than $160,000 was paid out to the woman for the damages.
The contents of McKean’s threatening messages were also aired by Mr Stark, including threats to “track her down eventually” and kick her doors down.
He also sent multiple derogatory messages, calling the woman a “spineless f---ing waste” and an “ungrateful b----”.
Many others were of threatening nature.
“You are creating a monster, well here it f---ing is,” one read.
“Message me or I promise you I will find you.
“You will get the violent response you’ve all been looking for.”
Mr Stark said the victim’s impact statement highlighted the psychological, emotional and financial impact which McKean’s offending left on her.
He told the court the woman found the messages “deeply disturbing” and was left in a constant state of fear and panic, with ongoing fear for her safety.
Defence barrister Lachlan Ygoa-McKeown said his client lost employment as a radiographer after the Office of the Health Ombudsman suspended his registration.
He said McKean had since taken up employment as a sonographer instead, which does not fall under the same restrictions which radiography is subject to.
Mr Ygoa-McKeown told the court McKean had been on meth during the period of offending and has since completed rehabilitation courses.
Judge Gary Long decided to adjourn the remainder of the sentence to Thursday, July 17.
