Police investigating suspicious shed fire at Farrell St, Yandina

Police believe a commercial building was deliberately set alight after a group of suspects stole a Holden Commodore from inside before fleeing the inferno.

Police have revealed on Saturday that a stolen vehicle is at the centre of a suspicious fire which gutted a commercial shed in the Sunshine Coast hinterland this week.

Multiple emergency crews descended on the Farrell street building about 4.30am on Tuesday after the shed became engulfed in flames.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said “multiple explosions” were heard at the building which was located near the local BP Service station, real estate and hardware store.

Up to eight crews were on scene with the blaze later extinguished. No injuries were reported.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said on Saturday early investigations indicated an offender or offenders broke into the premises and stole a silver Holden Commodore which was inside.

The spokeswoman said the suspect or suspects then sparked a fire inside the building with unknown items. They used further property to fuel the blaze before they fled in the stolen vehicle.

She said the property was severely damaged, with the fire spreading to a nearby Volkswagen Crafter van which was parked nearby.

No arrests have been made however investigations by police were ongoing, with detectives appealing to the public for information regarding the inferno.
