Two Maroochydore streets were closed today, December 12, for hours as emergency crews investigated a reported “suspicious substance”.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers were called to assist the Queensland Fire Department in securing the area after a suspicious substance was reported as potentially a poison.

A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said all tests came back negative and it was a clear false alarm.

“We have to do these checks and take things seriously for safety,” he said.

Both roads were reopened by 2.16pm.
