Maroochydore will soon be home to a world-class venue run by two driven local entrepreneurs.

Jai Roots and Noah Mirshahi are co-founders and directors of Pulse Bar and Live Music Venue on Duporth Ave, in the space formerly inhabited by the Eleven Dive Bar.

Pulse has been designed from the ground up as a nightclub and a live music venue with a bar and restaurant.

They plan to provide a “world-class” experience in a bespoke venue that caters for all tastes, booking live and electronic acts, and local and touring musicians.

The duo has brought artists such as Jungle Giants, Crooked Colours and Confidence Man to their Jynx House festivals so they are no strangers to working at high levels in the music industry.

They met in a university lecture when they were both 19 and in the first 30 minutes, they decided they were going to run a music festival together.

Now in their early 20s, they have self-funded this ambitious venture to fulfil their dream of showcasing the world-class talent and creativity the Sunshine Coast has to offer in a world-class venue.

Mr Mirshahi said the idea for the venue came out of the struggles the festival industry is facing.

“With the current climate of music festivals being very difficult to run and fund, we think it’s more logical to provide an experience on a recurring basis that people can consistently come back to,” he said.

Mr Roots said he was brought up on the Sunshine Coast and the entertainment and the lifestyle “has been sort of been missing” since 2016.

They started planning in January last year and have been building at breakneck speed since June last year.

Mr Mirshahi said the mission behind Pulse was to bring innovative live experiences to the coast.

“We find that a lot of people who have a lot of ambition and creativity generally leave the coast to pursue their dreams,” he said.

“A reason for that is a lack of nurturing in the talent pipeline at the moment and a lack of venue infrastructure and curated events.”

They want to align the night-life and music on the coast with the future growth of the region.

“We thought, why not create something that sort of translates that ethos into high-caliber music experiences and creating a platform for artists to communicate with their audiences.”

Mr Mirshahi wants the venue to set a new bar for the calibre of production and visual audio experience on the coast.

“Pulse will be a world-class experience that we want to spare no expense bringing to the community, all the way down to hospitality and customer service,” he said.

The around-500 capacity venue will support all forms of art with visual installations on their interactive video walls.

The building used to be the old Eleven Dive Bar, and the team has completely gutted and rebuilt the inside.

Mr Roots said the venue would contain a “full dining setup serviced by our commercial kitchen” offering an American and Asian-inspired fusion menu available from early afternoons into the night with a more limited menu from 9pm to 3am.

Pulse will also offer VIP experiences and the bar will have a full menu of craft cocktails, local beers and bespoke wines.

Mr Roots said it was an exciting and challenging process to build a brand new venue.

“We dove right in and in this situation you can only learn as you go, whether that’s project management, design or architecture,” he said.

Pulse’s opening date will be announced soon.
