A chip shop with a unique twist has shaken things up in Noosa this weekend.

Chip and Mix opened its doors on Saturday on Hastings St to a voracious crowd of hot chip fans.

If the name didn’t give you a clue, the shop revolves around customers picking and mixing their own toppings for hot chips, an idea that has apparently never been done.

A simple concept, but clearly something that people have been missing before now, if the crowds on today, its second day, were anything to go by.

Eager punters lined up on Hastings St for up to 30 minutes with the crowd increasing throughout the day.

Talking to the staff, they said they did not anticipate the sheer volume of people who showed up this weekend.

One worker said they ran clean out of stock a couple of times yesterday and had to close while they restocked, but even that did not deter the crowds.

Social media influencers have claimed the chip shop is a “world first”, with one TikTok about the shop attracting up to four million views and thousands of comments.

The idea of weight-based pick and mix itself has shown to work with great success with frozen yoghurt vendor Yo-Chi, just down the road, and locals were forming an efficient and orderly line around the delicious offerings like they had been doing it for years.

Bowls and plates of toppings, such as gravy and spinach were emptying as fast as staff could refill them.

They were rushing around frantically keeping things stocked, and maintaining an impressive standard of cleanliness as well.

The slightest tomato sauce drop was wiped up in seconds.

It is all local produce, with the pulled beef sourced wholesale from Eumundi Meats and other offerings from other local producers across the region.

The shop seemed to be a big hit with kids, teenagers and families, with the vast majority of the line being school-aged kids who were also hanging out at the beach.

Chip ‘n’ Mix’s shop’s viral social media campaign has clearly found a target market.

One older gentleman wandered past, declaring to the line, “I wouldn’t line up for a bag of chips”.
