Bicycle rider critical after being struck by a vehicle in one of four crashes on Sunshine Coast

Police are continuing to investigate into the circumstances of a crash which left a cyclist in critical condition.

Police are investigating a crash which left a man with a life-threatening injury after his bicycle was struck by a car on the Sunshine Coast.

Emergency services were called to a crash near the Sunshine Coast University Hospital at approximately 6.50pm following reports of a car hitting a rider.

The rider sustained a life-threatening head injury in the accident and was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Bystanders administered first aid to the cyclist as others called emergency services.

They provided dashcam footage to the police as evidence and said hope the cyclist will recover from their injuries.

Emergency services were called to Kawana Way, Birtinya about 5.50pm on April 4 following reports of a Foton Sauvana and an e-bike colliding.

The cyclist, a 42-year-old Battery Hill man, suffered a life-threatening head injury and was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

Bystanders administered first aid to the cyclist as others called emergency services.

They provided dashcam footage to the police as evidence and said hope the cyclist will recover from their injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old Wurtulla man, did not suffer any physical injuries.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said anyone with information or footage of the incident is urged to contact police.

The crash was one of four in the Sunshine Coast region overnight on Friday.

A man in his 20s suffered a leg injury in a bike crash on Currie St, Nambour at 10.21pm.

Shortly after, at 10.38pm Friday, a man in his 40s suffered a hand injury in a motorbike crash on Arkana Drive, Noosa Heads.

Both men were also taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Just a few hours later, paramedics attended a single-vehicle crash on Glass House Woodford Road at 1.35am.

According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, three patients – a stable woman in her 20s with a head injury, another stable woman in her 20s with minor injuries and an uninjured child – were all taken to the same hospital.
