The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

The heartbreaking final moments shared between Buderim teen Ryan Kimball and his parents before his death in a car crash in Bli Bli have been retold at his touching funeral service.

Ryan, 16, was farewelled by family and friends at a ceremony at Gregson and Weight in Buderim on June 24, 2022 after losing his life in a car crash along Finland Rd in Bli Bli on June 9, 2022.

Beloved stories, kind words and amusing anecdotes were retold by his family, extended relatives and those close to Ryan as they celebrated his life which was tragically cut short.

In a eulogy written by his parents Annette and Graeme Kimball and his younger brother Tyson, the family remembered cherished memories from Ryan’s early life when they lived near the Maroochy River where he ignited his passion for boats.

His days were filled with family time with his mum, dad, his brother, his grandparents and other extended family as they enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, crabbing, and motocross.

Ryan would accrue lifelong mates along the way from his days at Kuluin Prep School and Good Samaritan College in Bli Bli.

Throughout his tertiary years he was never a fan of school and attended trade school before leaving to pursue other aspirations.

Mr Kimball said in the family’s eulogy at the funeral he will always cherish the last moments he spent with Ryan the night before his passing on June 24.

Mr and Mrs Kimball, his brother Tyson and their rescue dog Rusty were laying on the bed watching TV when the 16-year-old walked into the room and riled up their 45kg dog as a cheeky jab at his parents.

Rusty began to fret and Ryan decided to leave with a cheeky grin, saying goodnight to them and that he’d see them tomorrow.

That would be the last time Mr Kimball would talk to his son.

Ryan’s parents loved seeing his mates come through their home and realised how popular their son was as he grew into a young adult and the smell of Lynx deodorant and KFC filled the family home.

His love of engines continued to grow as he hung with mates and looked towards the future of finding a job and getting his P-plates after passing the learner’s test.

Ryan’s family would always hold the teen close to their hearts and said they felt as if he was still around giving them comfort and telling them he was okay, even though their lives and home were now quiet without him.

Mrs Kimball remembered the afternoon of the accident that will stick in her memory forever where she asked Ryan to stay home.

Ryan said to his mum to stop worrying as everything would be all right and he would see her soon, and told her he loved her.

His mum recalled him waving goodbye to her with his trademark grin as he walked past the window.

The service concluded with a guard of honour for the young boatie who died at the age of 16.
