The summer holidays may not go too swimmingly in Maleny this year.
The Maleny Swimming Pool is yet to find a pool manager to oversee the daily runnings of the business.
It could mean the six-lane, 25m pool will not open for the summer.
Things were looking good for the reopening of the community-run pool after they worked hard to overcome the challenges of COVID.
With support from Maleny school principal, Education Queensland, Member for Glasshouse Andrew Powell and Division 5 councillor Winston Johnston the pool was prepped and ready for the warmer months.
They were able to undertake maintenance and make the regular operating payments to the swimming club upfront rather than in arrears.
But without a pool manager it could all be to no avail.
“I’ve been informed that they are still looking for a manager, who isn’t easy to find due to the qualifications needed and the fact that it is only a seasonal position,” Mr Powell said.
The member for Glasshouse said the Maleny pool was currently interviewing candidates for the managerial role and he hoped a decision would be made soon.
While he understood the community’s disappointed, Mr Powell encouraged residents to consider joining the committee rather than criticising those involved.
“It’s a community pool run by volunteers and I’m sure they’d love a hand,” he said.
The Daily approached the Maleny Pool for comment.
