Sunshine Coast groms have shown surfing talent beyond their years to land strong podium finishes in the latest round of the Woolworths Surfer Grom Comps Series.

Held at the Southport Spit at the weekend in testing 2-3ft waves, Olympic head judge Glen Elliot said the age divisions turned on "some of the best junior surfing I have ever seen".

Moffat Beach sensation Hunter Andersson used his third placing in the under 12 boys as a springboard for top honours in the Under 14 boys division.

Andersson showed incredible speed, power and flow on all of his scoring rides.

"I am only 11 so it means so much to win the Under 14 boys," he said.

Peregian Beach talent Oli Taylor took out the Under 14 girls contest in a quality final featuring Jordy Halford of Currumbin, Ocea Curtis of Lennox Headland and Ava Argyos of Fingal.

"It was such a close final, all of the girls are so good at surfing," Taylor said.

"Catching that first wave and scoring a 6.17 really set me up for the win."
