A hugely popular Asian restaurant has added new meals to its popular menu thanks to a new location offering more kitchen space.

Sum Yung Guys has officially opened its doors at its new location in the heart of Noosaville on May 4 after moving from Sunshine Beach.

Part-owner and director Dylan Campbell said the new location on Lake Weyba Drive meant the restaurant was able to add a further 10 meals to its popular menu.

"We've got a lot more space in the kitchen and we've always wanted to do more on the menu it was just very limited over in Sunshine," he said.

"Here we have more staff, better equipment and more opportunity to showcase what we have to offer."

Sum Yung Guys made headlines after the restaurant name was criticised for making "a mockery of Asian communities" in March 2021.

The criticism however seems to have had little impact on the restaurant's success.

More than 4000 bookings were recorded in the first 24 hours of the restaurant announcing its return in April.

"Purchasing this venue where we've become our own landlords was a huge achievement and business has been busier than ever, which is a credit to the customers and to the staff of our bigger, newer venue," Mr Campbell said.

"What used to happen at the old venue was it was smaller tables and a high volume of bookings so it was in and out service.

"Now diners have more time on their table which means they've got more time to eat, drink, talk, relax, and kind of enjoy the whole experience a bit more."

The restaurant, which started in 2017, is run by mates Dylan Campbell, Matt Sinclair, Michael Rickard and Jeremiah Jones.

Mr Campbell said there was a lot of discussions about the artwork in the new 400 sqm restaurant.

"We wanted to make sure we bought some of the iconic pieces from Sunshine that everyone loved and we've grown connected to like the mural piece," he said.

The team of 45 employees have been hard at work.

"People love the service, they love the energy in the room, the food, the drinks so it's not just going out for a meal, it's a full experience when they come in here," he said.
