Reflecting on the business highlights, growth, achievements and milestones were just some of the benefits from an awards application, says a well-known Sunshine Coast builder.

Whether or not you win, entering the Sunshine Coast Business Awards provides the opportunity to review your business and identify reference points that encourages forward planning, according to 2019 Large Building and Construction Category winners Murphy Builders.

Murphy Builders director Brooke Bastien said, as businesses finalise their applications this year, she would encourage them to enjoy the process.

“Don’t look at this as a “win or lose”, but rather as an opportunity to review your business and identify your strengths and areas to focus on more,” Mrs Bastien said.

“Working with our team through the application process encouraged us to reflect on our business highlights, growth, diversification, achievements, community work and milestones,” she said.

“As businesspeople, we can be so focused on running the actual business and achieving the targets and plans, that we forget to reflect.

“Entering the 2019 Sunshine Coast Business Awards gave us the opportunity to not only review where we have been and enjoy those successes, but it also gave us the tools, reference points and encouragement to forward plan and ascertain where we want to go next.”

Mrs Bastien said the Awards even helped the business face the challenges of the Covid pandemic.

“Like many others, our business has been impacted by Covid-19 since about March 2020. Entering the awards allowed us to reflect on some great achievements and, in hindsight, the win offered us the encouragement that has helped get us all through some of those tough days during the pandemic.

Mrs Bastien said she would highly recommend entering the Awards.

“Our team thoroughly enjoyed the process, from drafting the entry right through to the Awards night and celebration. For any business, winner or otherwise, it was such a valuable exercise of reflection and assessment of our business,” she said.

Applications now close at 5pm on August 30.
