A Sunshine Coast couple have revealed their plans for a luxury pet resort promising to pamper residents’ furry friends in a “Balinese” retreat-style facility.

The development application lodged with Sunshine Coast Council on January 14 proposes to build the high-end, short-term accommodation for dogs and cats on 134,400sq m of land in Tanawha.

Owners Kristyn and Brendan Williams said the design for their $650,000 Paw Seasons Resort and Daycare would accommodate about 54 dogs and 20 cats inside five dog villas and two cat buildings.

Ms Williams works in the luxury travel industry and after struggling to find comfortable accommodation for her “first born” Bichon Frise, she made it her dream to offer pet owners an option way beyond a traditional kennel.

“I want it to be a bit of a holiday for them because I feel like for many of us now who have got dogs or cats they have become another family member and we can’t take them on holidays with us as much as we’d like,” Ms Williams said.

“I’m really excited to bring something very new and unique to the Sunshine Coast.

“It’s our home, we love it up here. So many people have made the move to the Coast over the last couple of years and with the huge growth in dog purchases, we feel the time is right to be able to offer this quality of accommodation to animal lovers.”

Pets staying at the proposed resort would enjoy their own separate rooms with beds, reverse-cycle air conditioning, ceiling fans, an air purifier, insulation and video surveillance.

The facility would also feature a shared lounge room area complete with cushions, toys and televisions.

For the dogs to enjoy some outdoor fun there would be five courtyards, a run yard with walk-in pool for pets to cool off, as well as a large, agility run yard.

Ms Williams said the outdoor spaces had been incorporated to provide exercise and engagement for the furry guests and allow all kinds of pets to be stimulated.

The couple also planned to create walking tracks on the large property so the dogs can be taken on guided walks through the bush.

The business facility, called “the cottage” would have a reception, grooming room and a photographic studio.

Subject to council approval, Ms Williams hoped construction on the resort would be completed by September when the travel industry is expected to rebound.

“With the new highway interchange, the new international airport expansion at the Sunshine Coast and travel recommencing we thought that the timing was right,” she said.

The pair also expected to cater to high-profile clients one their venture was ticked off and developed.
