Fast food giants have revealed their plans to open chains at a booming master planned community at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast.

The state government has approved a development application for a KFC and has also received proposals for an Oporto and Pizza Hut in Caloundra South.

The proposal for a KFC and car wash to be built at Aura Boulevard and Farmer Crescent, Baringa, gained Economic Development Queensland approval on September 15, 2022.

Green Cape 6881 lodged the application which revealed plans to build the fast food restaurant with a drive-through and 18 car parks.

It is among several fast food giant chains in the pipeline for the growing community with a material change of use application also received two months ago for an Oporto, Caffe Aurora and Pizza Hut.

EG Asiapac Ventures was behind the proposal for the fast food restaurants and service station at Aura Boulevard, Baringa.

The application proposed a 179 sqm Oporto with a drive-through, and a 400 sqm EG Fuel alongside cafe Caffe Aurora and a Pizza Hut.

Caloundra Chamber of Commerce chief executive Brady Sullivan said the fast-food chains would add jobs, diversify the food and beverage space, and help attract more customers to both small and large businesses in the suburb.

“It gives people choice,” he said.

Mr Sullivan said the fast-food companies wouldn’t overshadow small businesses in the same industry as the Caloundra community was a keen supporter of small businesses.

He also added that it was “wonderful” to hear the residential development continue to evolve.

“It means it will be one of the most liveable communities in Queensland,” he said.

The approved and proposed applications are part of a flurry of development activity in Caloundra South, including thousands of homes and trade centres and restaurants, such as a McDonald’s and Mitre 10.
