A young woman charged over a crash which critically injured a 12-year-old girl on an e-scooter has had her court proceedings delayed due to her lawyer’s sickness.
Ava Isabella Ragusa stood quietly at the bar table as her lawyer Mathew Cuskelly addressed Maroochydore Magistrates Court via phone call on May 26.
Ms Ragusa has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm after an incident on August 21, 2024.
It is alleged Ms Ragusa pulled her Kia Rio out of a driveway onto Main Rd in Maroochydore and hit a 12-year-old girl riding an e-scooter on the footpath.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan said the matter was set for registry committal a month ago, and questions Mr Cuskelly why his client only received related documents earlier that morning.
Mr Cuskelly apologised, saying he had been unwell in the past month and was still “labouring under some sickness”.
Mr Callaghan said it was important to get through the matter in a reasonable amount of time, and adjourned the matter to June 16.
No plea has been entered to the charge.
