An ex-serviceman and legalise cannabis campaigner will have to pay a hefty price for attacking a TV screen at Brisbane Airport after he got frustrated with a parking machine.

An ex-serviceman and advocate for decriminalising cannabis has returned to court for attacking a television screen at the Brisbane Airport in frustration.
Andrew Paul Stacey appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on September 29, 2022, where he pleaded guilty to wilful damage.
The court heard Stacey was trying to pay for his parking at the airport on July 31, 2022, at 9.45pm when there was some “sort of issue” with the payment machine.
Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke said Stacey kicked the machine before punching the advertising screen.
“This caused a hole in the screen, three quarters of the screen turned black and it could no longer function,” Sergeant Nitschke said.
“He’s driven away and police were able to identify him.”
Stacey told police he had become angry when the machine wasn’t working properly and thought the electronic screen was a sign.
Restitution of $2415.53 was sought by Brisbane Airport for the broken screen.
“Seems an awfully expensive TV screen ... I’d price them at about a thousand bucks but anyway,” Stacey said in court.
“It’s not unusual for an airport corporation to be ripping people off.”
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist fined him $300 and ordered he pay the restitution.
A conviction was recorded.
