Qld election 2024: David Crisafulli’s ambitious plan in first 100 days as Premier

LNP’s promised youth crime crackdown is on top of the agenda for Queensland’s new Premier David Crisafulli following his historic victory tonight.

After a hard-fought and successful campaign, there will be no time to rest for the LNP with Premier David Crisafulli outlining an ambitious plan for his government’s first 100 days in office.

Mr Crisafulli became Queensland’s newest premier, with Sky News reporting the LNP would form a majority government.

Highest on the agenda for the first week will be the LNP’s promised youth crime crackdown, with Mr Crisafulli to meet with the Police Commissioner on what extra resourcing he needs and instructing the Department of Justice and Attorney-General to being drafting “Making Queensland Safer’’ laws.

The 45-year-old will set up a Cabinet housing taskforce and instruct Treasury to begin abolishing stamp duty on new builds for first homebuyers.

He will also begin a review of the state’s troubled forensic centre and scrap Queensland’s biggest ever construction project, the Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro scheme.

Then in the coming month an independent Olympics authority will be set up and ministers will get KPIs which they must meet, or be demoted.

Queensland Health will be told to work towards publishing real-time hospital data and begin rolling out plans to cut ambulance ramping and stabilise wait lists.

An electricity maintenance guarantee on power plants will come into force, with accountability for maintenance.

The Crime and Corruption Commission’s reporting powers will be boosted and work will start on a 20-year tourism plan.

An independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority will be set up to map out infrastructure and transport needs for the 2032 Games, which will report in 100 days.

The 50 cent public transport fares will be made permanent.

By the end of the year, tough-on-crime laws, including removing detention as a last resort, will be passed, as will laws tore-establish a Productivity Commission.

The real cost of Cross River Rail and its completion date will be released.

Those eligible for first homeowner grants will be able to rent out a room without penalty and church/charity land freed up for community housing.

Laws to re-establish the Productivity Commission will be passed, with its first order of business a regulatory review into the building industry.

The Bruce Highway Advisory Council will be re-established.

By the end of the LNP government’s first 100 days tenders will be called for youth crime programs including regional “reset’’ camps and the Staying on Track program to divert and rehabilitate at-risk children.

There will be a Queensland Family and Child Commission inquiry into the failures of the blue card child protection system.

An independent Public Sector Commission would be up and running.

Capacity levels for forensic medical examinations (rape kits) in hospitals will be released and there will be a parliamentary inquiry into elder abuse.

The natural resource management program will be expanded.

The Small Business Commissioner will be told to focus on red tape reduction and dispute management for small businesses.

A working group including victims of domestic, family and sexual violence will be set up to highlight gaps in the system and opportunities for reform.

Efforts to boost home ownership in indigenous communities will begin.
