New Granite Belt cabins are set to bring the Irish culture to the bush by offering an experience unlike any other in the region.
Glen Lough Cabins located in Glen Aplin are currently under construction and set to be ready for guests in only a few months.
Owner Sheila O’Boyle said guests would be offered a true Irish experience as she and husband Pat plan to incorporate leprechauns, Irish food and other cultural aspects into each visitor’s stay.
“No matter where you go in the world, people love the Irish, so we thought we’d bring a little bit of Irishness into the Aussie bushland,” she said.
Mrs O’Boyle said the property’s proximity to many wineries and national parks with over 86 bird species would be attractive for many visitors.
To highlight the serenity of the property and its beautiful surroundings, the pair plan to incorporate a wildlife walking tour.
“(Visitors) are in the bush and the views are just awesome, and everything is going to obviously be brand new,” she said.
The couple have always had a fascination and appreciation for the Granite Belt visiting most weekends, before deciding to call the region home two years ago.
“We wanted to share our slice of serenity with others by building the cabins,” Mrs O’Boyle said.
“While it’s not in a remote setting it feels like it is and I think that peace and tranquility is lovely.”
There are four cabins on the Glen Aplin property each containing one bedroom and bathroom, a kitchen, a lounge room with a couch that doubles as a pull out bed and a wood burner, and a decking and barbecue area.
Of the four cabins one will be wheelchair accessible and another will be pet-friendly, and each will be able to house up to four people.
The cabins were designed by Mr O’Boyle as he’s a carpenter by trade, and will feature modern and simple interiors.
Each cabin will be named a uniquely Irish name and written in the language of Gaeilge or “Irish Gaelic”.
“The (property) name is inspired from our ancestors and homeland which is Ireland. Glen Lough is the property that my grandmother grew up on and I think the inspiration really comes from her,” Mrs O’Boyle said.
The cabins are located at 232 Townsend Road, Glen Aplin and are set to be completed and ready for guests by November.
