Crime wrap: Stanthorpe woman racks up 9 fraud charges in alleged stealing spree, animal negligence claims, and more

Police claim the Stanthorpe woman used a stolen debit card to treat herself to a number of new purchases. She was just one of the alleged offenders charged by police this month.

A Stanthorpe woman will front court on a raft of fraud charges after she allegedly used a stolen debit card on a days-long spending spree.

Stanthorpe Police officer-in-charge Gerard Brady said the 34-year-old allegedly used the card to make purchases over several days at retailers across the town.

She was charged with nine counts of fraud and is due to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on August 18.

Police allege a 20-year-old man put a damper on Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festivities when he began swearing and using inappropriate language on the evening of July 3.

The Amiens man was charged with disorderly behaviour and is due to appear in Stanthorpe Magistrates Court at a later date.

A Stanthorpe woman has been forced to surrender her miniature horse after neighbours voiced concerns for the animal’s welfare to the authorities.

The 29-year-old reportedly gave up the horse she was keeping at her Stanthorpe property on June 12, and her pet dog was also taken to the vet later that day.

Senior Sergeant Brady was unable to provide information on the animals’ current conditions or whereabouts, but said no charges had been laid at this stage.

Police are also conducting inquiries into a 22-calibre bullet found wedged in the outside wall of a large rural property on Central Road at Sugarloaf on July 1.

Senior Sergeant Brady warned residents that firing a weapon into another person’s property was a serious offence.

Police are still investigating the incident and were unable to confirm the nature of why the gun was fired or who fired it.
