Human remains discovered in a North Burnett town have been linked to a man who disappeared from his property last year, sparking a weeks-long search. Here’s what we know so far:

Human remains discovered at a North Burnett town have been linked to missing Dallarnil man William Hetherington, who disappeared from his property in October last year.

A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed the remains, which were discovered in Biggenden at the end of March, matched the 78-year-old’s DNA.

Investigations are underway into the cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

Mr Hetherington disappeared from his property north of Biggenden on October 9 last year, triggering wide-scale aerial and land searches involving police, SES crews, and members of the man’s family and community.

His family raised the alarm when they were unable to get in contact with him.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
