Two people in hospital for smoke inhalation as fire rips through house and shed in South Burnett

A blaze ripped through a South Burnett house and shed on Saturday night leaving two people with smoke inhalation.

Two people have been taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, after a blaze ripped though a South Burnett home and its backyard shed on Saturday night.

Fire crews. paramedics, and police rushed to Kumbia, 28km southwest of Kingaroy, after a fire broke out in a house near Collier St around 9pm on Saturday night.

The timber house was “well involved,” the roof collapsed, and the fire spread to a shed on the property, a Queensland fire spokesman said.

Four fire crews battled the blaze for three hours, containing it at 11pm and finally extinguishing it at 12pm.

At one stage the Bunya Hwy was closed due to the fire, they said.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Kingaroy Hospital, a QAS spokesman said.

Police said the fire was not suspicious.

A fire crew returned to the scene early Sunday morning to investigate and ensure the area remains safe.
