Police bust almost $100k of meth in South Burnett

Regional Queensland police have charged 62 people with 700+ offences following a massive year-long drug operation.

Almost $100,000 worth of meth has been seized in the past year across the South Burnett with police charging more than 60 people for supply.

Most recently, a 29-year-old Gympie man has been charged with supplying meth to 123 people and making more than $76,000 in sales over 15 months, police said on Wednesday.

The man is on 136 charges, including trafficking, supplying and receiving proceeds of trafficked drugs, and will face Gympie Magistrates Court on August 7, 2023.

A 21-year-old man from Proston is also charged with supplying meth to 15 people and making more than $15,000 over 10 months, police said.

The Proston man faces 43 charges of trafficking drugs, supplying drugs and receiving proceeds of trafficked drugs and possessing something used in the commision of crime.

He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates court on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

The arrests are part of the Murgon Criminal Investigation Branch operation DEBUG, launched in December 2022, to target drug supply in the South Burnett.

Within the operation, police have charged 62 people with 720 offences and seized drugs worth more than $96,000.

“We have seen time and time again the harm these illicit substances cause; disrupting this alleged criminal activity is a priority in order to keep our communities safe,” Detective Sergeant Martin Hunter said.

“If you know something in relation to this sort of criminal activity, it is vital information is provided to police, so we can investigate and put offenders before the court.”

Police appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
