TAP dancing may have once been only reserved for the likes of Fred Astaire and other equally talented individuals, but not any more.

A new fitness craze has made it’s way to the South Burnett and health-conscious residents couldn’t be tappier.

Tapfit brings the community together through dance and has also proven to be a great workout.

Instructor Meghan Royes, who grew up in Kingaroy, recently started the weekly dance classes.

“It’s like Zumba with tap shoes,” she said.

She was confident anyone could get involved in the new fitness craze.

“You don’t need any dance experience,” she said.

“I don’t make it too difficult and I provide the slip-on shoes.”

Royes met the founders of Tapfit during her time in London.

“They are four sisters from Ipswich,” she said.

“They have instructors all over the US and the UK.”

Now it is in Australia and Royes is one of only 20 Tapfit instructors in the country.

An accountant by day, Royes has been involved in dancing from a very young age.

“I grew up in dancing,” she said.

“I used to dance with Ally Walker Dance School.”

There are three Tapfit locations in the South Burnett.

Royes instructs classes at Kingaroy on Tuesdays, Nanango on Wednesdays and Blackbutt on Thursdays.

She is holding a Movember fundraiser on December 7 and would like to see as many men in the class as possible.

For more information about the charity fitness session or for regular classes, contact Meghan Royes on 0437 247 726.
