A woman has been arrested after a chaotic incident on Sunday where a police officer was allegedly bitten and a dog “strangled”, all over a refusal to wear a mask.

Queensland Police confirmed they took a 48-year-old woman into custody on Sunday after an incident at Nanango IGA, south of Kingaroy.

A police spokeswoman said the woman allegedly entered the store without a mask and refused to comply with a direction to put one on.

Police attended at about 4pm and said she continued to refuse to mask up.

The Nanango woman was initially arrested for failing to comply with the public health order, before she allegedly attacked an officer and hurt a dog.

Speaking during a press conference this morning, Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said the woman “took it upon herself to seriously assault police, attempt to bite them and strangle a dog.”

She has been charged with serious assault on police, breach of duty of care by inappropriate handling, failing to comply with the public health order, and three counts of obstructing police.

She is due to face Nanango Magistrates Court on February 7.

It comes after confirmation three Queensland Police officers have tested positive to Covid-19, sending over 100 others into isolation.

A total of 101 police officers from Logan and the Gold Coast have been forced to isolate just days from Christmas, after two police officers tested positive to the virus on the Gold Coast, and another tested positive in Logan.
