A South Burnett labourer has been sentenced to prison for a vicious six-hour attack on his partner when he repeatedly struck her, resulting in three facial fractures, two black eyes and extensive bruising.

Lucas Dean Frahn, 28, pleaded guilty at the Murgon Magistrates Court on Wednesday to charges of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed (domestic violence offence), contravention of a domestic violence order (aggravated offence), possession of dangerous drugs (meth), possession of utensils or pipes, and five counts of contravening a domestic violence order.

Frahm, who appeared via video link from the Maryborough Correctional Facility, had already spent 63 days in custody before his guilty plea.

The court was told in the early morning of May 11, Frahm began assaulting his partner, repeatedly slapping her with a shoe after accusing her of infidelities.

Frahm’s lawyer, Jay Rose, said Frahm questioned the victim about her “driving around in a car with another male” and alleged the driver of the car was intoxicated and had children present.

“(Frahm) blacked out during the incident at times,” Ms Rose said.

The assault, which lasted six hours, involved Frahm hitting the victim in the face and back at least 16 times.

She suffered three facial fractures to the cheekbone and eye socket, two black eyes, swelling to the lips with the upper lip “busted”, bruising to the rib area and other parts of her body and had a “reduced level of consciousness”, the court was told.

The court was told Frahm had also damaged the bedroom door.

The victim was taken to Kingaroy Hospital, where she remained “for some time”.

The court was told Frahm had three previous breaches of domestic violence orders and breaches of probation and was on parole when he committed the assault.

After the assault, Frahm was found at Wattle Camp days later, the court heard.

While serving time in Maryborough, Frahm attempted to contact the victim five times through his mother, contravening the domestic violence order.

He asked his mother to request that the victim deposit money into his jail account and to convey that he loved her.

Ms Rose said Frahm had “significant remorse” for the assault.

“He knows this was wrong; this was the first physical incident between them,” she said.

The court also heard Frahm suffered from PTSD and depression.

Ms Rose said Frahm was raised by his “heroin addict” mother before being placed in foster care by age eight.

She said he planned to move to Hervey Bay once released from prison.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said the use of violence was “completely unacceptable”.

“It needs to be denounced in the strongest of possible terms,” Mr Sinclair said.

“It’s unthinkable in modern society that a man would hit a woman for five hours with a shoe because he thought she was unfaithful, even if it was true that she was unfaithful.”

Frahm was sentenced to two years jail for the assault and three months for the six domestic violence contraventions, to be served concurrently.

He was convicted but not further punished for the drug charges.

He will be eligible for parole on November 22, 2024.

Convictions were recorded.
