Lawrence Herbert Dalton sentenced for driving nearly four times over legal alcohol limit

Coming home from a boozy fishing trip that morning, Lawrence Herbert Dalton told police he couldn’t remember why he got behind the wheel after he was busted driving nearly four times over the legal alcohol limit.

Police watched as Dalton attempted to enter a Lamb Street car park July 4, instead hitting the front bollard.

“Slurring” his speech as he spoke to police, Dalton said he’d been drinking alcohol on a fishing trip that morning and couldn’t remember why he’d decided to drive.

Appearing in Murgon Magistrates Court, he pleaded guilty to drink driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.197.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said this was an “extreme reading”, especially considering he’d received suspended jail terms for similar offending.

Lawyer Mark Oliver said his client was an alcoholic and was seeking help for his drinking.

Dalton was placed on a 12 month period of probation and disqualified from driving for 15 months.

The conviction was recorded.
