Kingaroy police are investigating a series of break-ins and car thefts involving a small group of men and homes in Darryl Crescent, Murray Parade and Poinciana Avenue last week.

The group is alleged to have committed several break-ins across the northern part of town on Monday, October 24.

Police said their investigations indicated a man broke into a property on Darryl Crescent about 7.45pm last Monday. Another three men are alleged to have tried to break into a house on Murray Parade 30 minutes later, but were thwarted by a resident.

The wife of the occupant who caught them in the act said her husband had been sitting in the lounge room when he heard the screen door open.

“Then he sings out to the rest of us to ask if we are in the house – we all say yes,” she said.

Some of the would-be thieves were caught in the act of breaking into the house in Murray Parade when they were met at the front door by the male resident.

“Then he hears the front door pop open, so he gets up, opens the door and greets them.

“As soon as they saw my husband, they ran off.”

The group drove off in a white Mazda CX-30, which police believe had been stolen from Woodridge in Brisbane earlier that afternoon.

The woman said they have never had a break-in before and she was not afraid of the intruders coming back but she was frustrated that some people thought they could steal from hardworking people.

“They won’t come back, they didn’t succeed with us,” she said.

“(I’m) just more annoyed that they think it’s ok to steal off people who bust their butt to have what we have, go to work to earn money to have what we have, and they have no job and think they are entitled.”

The same group is then alleged to have broken into a home in Poinciana Avenue about 9.30pm.

It is alleged they stole a set of car keys from the home before one of the men drove off in a grey Mitsubishi Outlander parked there.

The burnt-out Mazda was found later at the intersection of Cemetery Road and Fisher Street, in Cherbourg.

Investigations into all these incidents are ongoing.
