From more than 150 comments, Klawed by Kitty Nails’ Katrina Jaggard secured her position as the favourite with an overwhelming majority of nominations, and then a majority of votes to win the title of the Burnett’s best nail technician of 2023.

Klawed by Kitty Nails received 29per cent of votes.

The passionate and artistic Ms Jaggard, 31, has made a significant impression on the region’s nail art lovers since opening her Kingaroy salon in February 2021.

She moved to the South Burnett as a child and has always been filled with a passion for art and creativity.

“I love being challenged by complex designs, it’s so exciting learning different things and meeting new clients,” Ms Jaggard said.

“As a nail technician you become a friend, a listening ear and a place for your clients to wind down and relax and I’ve always prided myself on creating an environment where my clients can feel relaxed and at home.”

Ms Jaggard said she was inspired to embark on her business journey after her children were born to make her source of income more compatible with motherhood.

She started out painting her friends and family’s nails before studying a Certificate 3 in nail technology in 2019.

“My two boys are neurodiverse and require more assistance than most kids so I decided I wanted a career where I could be my own boss and work my own hours, while still being able to support them and myself financially.

“The most challenging part of what I do is learning how to be business minded and reminding myself that as much as I love my job it also is a source of income for my family and I need to treat my business as such,” she said.

“I am just insanely grateful for all your support and I cannot express enough how much this means to me,” she said.

“To all my family and friends who have supported me through this journey and helped me to achieve my dream of running a successful business, I couldn't have done it without all of you.”
