Kingaroy house fire: Police investigating ‘suspicious’ blaze at CTC youth service house

Several people have been evacuated from their home after a ‘suspicious’ fire ripped through a not-for-profit-owned youth house in the centre of Kingaroy. Here’s everything we know so far:

Police have launched an investigation into a “suspicious” fire that tore through a CTC youth service-owned house in Kingaroy, destroying almost everything inside.

Emergency crews were called to the blaze on Kingaroy St at about 7am on Wednesday, with firefighters joined by police and paramedics at the scene.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the house was fully engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived.

The house was almost completely gutted internally by the fire and will likely be written off.

It belonged to the South Burnett Community Training Centre, a not-for-profit organisation that offers youth, employment, disability, and foster care services for those in need across the region.

Kumbia Police officer-in-charge Senior Constable Todd Armstrong said there was an unconfirmed number of young people and a CTC counsellor inside the house when the fire broke out, but all were evacuated safely.

He said the fire was “being treated as suspicious” at this stage, with forensic crews and investigations still working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Arrangements are currently being made to find a new home for the young people impacted by the fire.
