MEMBERS of the Kingaroy Men’s Shed are powering ahead with their projects thanks to more than $5000 in funding from the Australian Government.

Power will run from the Kingaroy Men’s Shed to a new toilet block’s hot water system and also provide lighting, with $5384 in Federal Government funding to support the works which are funded through the National Shed Development Programme.

“The Kingaroy Men’s Shed is going to be more user-friendly for its volunteers, particularly with the additional power points and lights for men to work on their projects,” Maranoa MP David Littleproud said.

“This is great news, because that’s the big picture behind men’s sheds – men working together on projects that benefit the local community.

Mr Littleproud said men’s sheds in communities across the Maranoa are important assets to

stay connected with others.

“Men’s sheds are integral to the community and the benefits to men’s health are widely acknowledged. Feeling part of a social group – especially in our regional and rural communities – is important to our emotional and mental health,” he said.

“Men’s Sheds really help men get out of the house, involved with a project and being around a community of minds is priceless when it comes to undergoing projects.”

Goondiwindi and Allora Men’s Sheds’ are also receiving funding as part of the National Development Programme with $16,584 invested across the Maranoa.
