SOUTH Burnett residents are bracing themselves for another day of very high fire danger as several fires burn throughout the region.

QFES crews in the South Burnett are currently monitoring fires in Kingaroy, Kilkivan, Brooklands, Tarong, Monsildale, Jimna and Mount Stanley.

People near these areas will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Motorists are urged to be cautious and people are encouraged keep their doors and windows closed.

Residents are urged to call 000 if they believe their property or families are under threat.

Queensland's Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young is advising Queenslanders to look after themselves as 42 Local Government Areas in Queensland are declared a State of Fire Emergency yesterday.

Dr Young urged Queenslanders to vigilant, as pre-existing health conditions can be exacerbated by smoke and udst.

"People in communities affected by bushfires can take precautions by avoiding vigorous exercise especially if you have asthma, diabetes, heart disease or a breathing related condition," she said.

"If you have an air conditioner at home, turn it on and use it in a recirculate mode. Ensure you are drinking plenty of fluids and staying cool by taking cool showers, soaking feet in water or wearing a wet bandana or washer around your neck."

"If you have elderly neighbours or relatives it's a good idea to check in on them."

If anyone experiences any adverse reactions to the heat, dust or smoke such as shortness of breath, prolonged coughing or wheezing, seek medical advice. Call 000 in an emergency or call 13 Health (432584) for general health advice.

Dr Young urged those in affected communities to look out for and avoid tank water near fires or fire affected foods.
