A building is set to be demolished to help make way for a new IGA supermarket complete with 30 car parks in the heart of Wondai.

An application approved by the South Burnett Council on March 13, 2024, indicates the development will occupy land between Haly Street and Edward Street, with the address 72 Edward St and 75-79 Haly St between Dan’s Diner and the Wondai Bakery..

It was submitted by Adapt Development Management on behalf of Wondai Property Holdings.

The plan shows an antique store, also known as Tillo’s Treasures, Antiques and Secondhand at 77 Haly street, is located where the supermarket will be built.

‘Destroying our community’: Vandals torch equipment, flood courts

For the application to be approved, certain requirements had to be met including the management of stormwater, noise and traffic.

A stormwater management report conducted by Westera Partners concluded the site was not subject to flooding and new infrastructure would be constructed to collect and redirect stormwater run-off.

A noise report was also conducted by acoustic engineering consultants, Live it Acoustics, which recommended noise barriers be constructed around sections of the site.

A traffic engineering report concluded the designs were reasonable but did recommend 15-minute time restrictions to the four on-street car parks on Haly St.

The application also states the approved hours of operation for the IGA will be 6am-7pm Monday to Sunday, excluding public holidays.

Wondai already has an IGA on MacKenzie Street, which is about 300m from the newly approved site.

No date has been announced for the start of construction.
