WHEN it comes to delicious chicken parmies, South Burnett has plenty of mouthwatering choices.
But the results from our recent reader poll revealed the Royal Hotel in Yarraman is best place to go to get your parmigiana fix.
We spoke with head cook, Stacey Ellwood about why she thinks their parmies took out the top spot.
Ms Ellwood has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry and has been serving up flavoursome food at the Yarraman hotel for just over five months.
Alongside her small team of dedicated kitchen hands, the head cook told the South Burnett Times people loved their chicken parmies for one simple, yet underrated reason.
"Everything's homemade and nothing we use is out of a jar,” Ms Ellwood said.
"We even make the napolese sauce from scratch.
"It's makes a huge difference to the meal and the customers can taste it.”
As well as the traditional chicken parmy topped with ham and cheese, the Royal Hotel also serves up Hawaiian, golden buick, garlic and meatlovers versions.
Of course, perfecting the parmy craft would not be possible without a solid sauce selection - the Royal offers plain gravy, Diane, pepper, mushroom or garlic sauce.
Their food draws in the locals as well as many travellers who are drive through the region and need a feed.
Ms Ellwood said she was surprised that the customers who put the Royal Hotel in the running for South Burnett's best parmy title weren't some of their regulars.
"We didn't know the people who nominated us,” Ms Ellwood said.
"However, it made us feel appreciated and valued in the wider community.
"I love working here and being in the kitchen.”
As word of mouth continues to spread about their good food, Ms Ellwood said regular customers loved their long-standing recipes and the generous serving sizes.
