Roma police reveal alleged offender responsible for Roma State College break in

Police have charged an 18-year-old woman for causing so much damage to a Roma school last week that students were told to stay home the next day.

Less than a week after Roma State College was broken into, police have confirmed they have found the person they believe to be responsible for damaging ten classrooms at the senior campus.

Roma police officer-in-charge Duane Frank said police executed a search warrant at a Roma address on Tuesday August 14 where they located the alleged offender.

An 18-year-old Toowoomba woman has been charged with entering a premise with intent, wilful damage to property part of an educational institution, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and interfering with fire apparatus.

Senior sergeant Frank said during the search they located a stolen car which had been missing from a Roma address since August 3.

He confirmed during investigations into the damage, they uncovered numerous fire extinguishers at the school had been tampered with.

Investigations are still ongoing and if sufficient evidence is collected co-offenders could be charged.

Sgt Frank said a combination of witness statements and great police work contributed to achieving such a quick outcome.

The Toowoomba woman is due to appear in Roma Magistrates Court on September 12.
