Roma fencer Bradie McCormack writes off car while drug driving

A Southwest Queensland business owner, born in Toowoomba, fronted court for drug driving, again, however this time he wrote off his car while on the job.

A Toowoomba court heard a Roma dad was travelling to work with methamphetamine in his system when he crashed his ute along the Carnarvon Highway.

The Surat fencing business owner, Bradie Leigh William McCormack pleaded guilty to driving with a relevant drug in his system at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Friday, February 2.

It was the third time McCormack fronted court for drug driving within the past five years, however he also had a prior drink driving charge.

The heard the single-vehicle crash occurred on the Carnarvon Highway at Bymount, about 60km north of Roma, on June 13.

The Toowoomba born man wrote off his car and spent a number of days in an intensive case unit after suffering a broken jaw and leg.

Magistrate Mark Howden fined McCormack $900 and disqualified him from driving for six months, however his licence was suspended following the crash.

Mr Howden told McCormack he should not have been driving having consumed drugs the day prior, and noted he was at a loss as to how he was managing his business without a licence.

A conviction was recorded.

McCormack had previously appeared in Roma Magistrate’s court in 2021 for driving with meth in his system.

On that occasion he was granted the benefit of a conviction not being recorded as he planned to start his own commercial shooting business.

Magistrate Howden warned McCormack if he came before the courts again for a similar charge, he would face a stiffer penalty.
