A Roma woman has been ordered to pay the price for destroying an antique window of an iconic regional town’s pub.

Myanna Rose Lake pleaded guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to wilful and unlawful damage and failing to provide her identifying particulars to Roma Police.

Police prosecutor Mathew Donnelly said on November 19 Lake and another female offender were captured on CCTV footage throwing a black mobile phone through an antique glass pane of the Hotel Corones Charleville.

The court was told the pub is a historical building in the Charleville CBD and officially listed on the National Trust Register.

“The glass window pane has shattered, part of the broken pane had bent inwards towards the hotel so that would be indicative of some force,” Mr Donnelly said.

After police reviewed the footage three days later they were able to identify two females, aged between 15 and 20, who reside in Roma as being involved in the incident.

Mr Donnelly confirmed that the charge against the juvenile co-defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was dropped.

“There was a co-defendant nominated but that person is now flagged as no longer wanted,” Mr Donnelly said.

“This defendant (Lake) is the only person who has been charged for this incident.”

Further on April 23, Lake was charged with not following a police requirement after she failed to attend the Roma Police Station with her identifying particulars.

“She said she forgot and could not provide a lawful reason.

“The amount sought for restitution is significant, it is more in my view appropriate that the victim be compensated. What ability the defendant will have, I don’t know.

“I don’t oppose a convict and not further punish because of the quantity of the restitution.”

Acting magistrate Michael Bice said he’s taken into account the total amount ordered to pay in restitution, which is far higher than it normally would be for damaging a non-historical building.

“You need to be very careful, if you have more property related offences you could be facing jail, I’m just letting you know you’re not too far away from that,” Mr Bice said.

Lake was convicted and not further punished for both offences and ordered to pay $5333 in restitution for the damaged window which was referred to SPER.

Convictions were recorded.
