A Roma business owner has faced court over his involvement in a shirtless disturbance in a McDonald’s carpark.

Corey James Drennen, 36, faced Roma Magistrates Court on April 3 where he pleaded guilty to public nuisance and obstructing police after being involved in an altercation outside Roma McDonald’s on March 3.

Police prosecutor Ellysha Geddes told the court police were flagged down by onlookers, and attended the scene in the carpark of the McDonald’s.

Ms Geddes said police observed a large group of young adults arguing with two shirtless males in the carpark.

As police attempted to de-escalate the situation, the court was told Drennen yelled and swore at the officers and attempted to run away, until police presented their taser.

Drennen subsequently complied, and was taken to the watch-house where he was charged with one count of public nuisance and one count of obstruction of a police officer.

Drennen’s legal representative, Trevor May of Ferrier and Co solicitors, told the court his client had managed his own business for 11 years.

Drennen’s business does work for local councils including Toowoomba Regional Council and Maranoa Regional Council, and employs seven staff.

Mr May told the court the incident occurred while Drennen was out celebrating an occasion with his staff.

Drennen was fined $700 and sentenced to 30 hours community service. No conviction was recorded.

Another man, Brendan Graham Baldwin, faced the same punishment for his involvement in the same event.

Baldwin received the same punishment after also pleading guilty to the same charges.
