A Maranoa man has faced court after police discovered more than 200g of cannabis stashed in a cereal box during a raid of his partner’s home.

Caleb Rickie Bannerman appeared in Roma Magistrates Court on May 15 where the Yuleba man pleaded guilty to possession of dangerous drugs and failure to appear in court.

A plea of not guilty was entered to a charge of supplying dangerous drugs.

Bannerman was charged with supplying dangerous drugs on January 17, after he allegedly supplied heroin to another man.

Police prosecutor Ellysha Geddes said after police made that charge, they executed a search warrant at a Roma address on January 20, during which they discovered a large stash of cannabis.

Ms Geddes said the search was conducted at Bannerman’s girlfriend’s residence. Bannerman’s girlfriend was not charged with any wrongdoing.

“While conducting a search of the kitchen area, police located a Coco Pops box in the kitchen pantry,” Ms Geddes said.

“Inside that box was a large clip-seal bag filled with dried plant matter with a weight of approximately 220g.”

Appearing self-represented in court, Bannerman said that while the drugs were found at his girlfriend’s house, they belonged to him.

After the search, Bannerman was charged with possession of a dangerous drug, and granted bail.

He then failed to attend court on March 5, and a warrant for his arrest was executed.

Ms Geddes said Bannerman surrendered to the police station on March 11, where he was charged with failure to appear.

Bannerman told the court his solicitor had advised he would not have to attend court on that day.

He was supported in court on May 15 by his girlfriend.

Magistrate Michael Wood fined Bannerman a total of $800 for his failure to appear and possession of dangerous drugs charges, and no conviction was recorded for either.

For Bannerman’s remaining charge of allegedly supplying heroin, Mr Wood ordered a brief of evidence be prepared before a pre-hearing mention on June 25.
