Guide to the Queensland state election 2024 in Warrego

Having your say is an important function of democracy, but it can be overwhelming. Follow this guide on how to vote, so you can focus on who to vote for.

Queensland election being framed around ‘law and order’

Queenslanders are less than three weeks away from heading to the polls to fulfil their democratic duty in the 2024 state election.

Election day is officially slated for Saturday, October 26, and all eligible voters must vote on or before that day.

The state electorate of Warrego covers most of South West Queensland, and includes the Maranoa Regional Council, Balonne Shire Council, Paroo Shire council, Murweh Shire Council, Quilpie Shire Council, and Bulloo Shire Council in their entirety. The electorate also covers a lot of the Western Downs Regional Council area, but townships including Chinchilla, Miles, Wandoan, Jandowae and Drillham fall under the electorate of Callide.

While voting can seem like a chore, it is compulsory in Queensland, and voters who fail to vote on or before election day may be fined.

Here is a set of steps voters can take, to make sure their vote counts:

Check your enrolment

If you have recently become an eligible voter, or have recently had a change of address, ensure your details are correct on the electoral roll here.

Know how to vote

The most popular way to vote is in person at a polling booth on election day.

However, select polling booths will be open before election day for early voting.

If you are unable to make it to polling station, postal votes are also available to all voters, and some eligible voters can vote by telephone, or via mobile polling.

There will be seven names on the Warrego ballot including incumbent Ann Leahy for the Liberal National Party, Jack Hargreaves for the Australian Labor Party, Christopher Schenk for the Family First party, Ian Mazlin for the Greens, Hayley Titmarsh for One Nation, Angela Adams for legalise Cannabis Queensland, and Daniel Gill as an independent.
