Christopher Schenk is also running for MP for Warrego, as a candidate for the Family First party.

Mr Schenk is a Dalby local, with close to 15 years of experience in primary and secondary school teaching.

According to his bio on the Family First Queensland website, Mr Schenk endeavours to “fight against the destructive far left agenda and restore prosperity and freedom, and to hold to account those that have caused the erosion of both of these in our culture”.

He is opposed to “radical far-left ideologies such as transgenderism, abortion, euthanasia and climate change”.

He

said it didn't take much encouragement for him to put his hand up to run as a candidate, but said he was still not sure the politician's life was for him.

“I think that’s a good thing,” he said.

“I genuinely want to create change.”

He said he was motivated by what he said were “attacks” on the conservative Australian’s way of life.

“I really see the destruction of the family being the prime mover of our culture at the moment,” he said.

Among his personal views that make up his platform, Mr Schenk said he does not believe a pregnant person should have a right to terminate a pregnancy under any circumstances, does not believe that gender-affirming care should be available to transgender people, and that coal, gas, and nuclear were the best options for energy.

In his view, the belief that abortion is “murder” is a belief which “the entire Western world has held for thousands of years”.

He said another top priority was to support traditional family units, which he said would help the youth crime crisis.

“We would like to put a lot more support into helping children and helping youths,” he said.

Mr Schenk said he did not agree that providing abortion healthcare might help prevent children being born into disadvantage, and instead said the onus was on the parents to not conceive in the first place.

Mr Schenk also said a lot of “misinformation” was fed to the public regarding renewable energy.

“Immediately we would like to put a halt to the net-zero green agenda,” Mr Schenk said.

Angela Adams, running for MP for Warrego with the Legalise Cannabis Queensland Party, is standing on a platform of ending cannabis prohibition in Queensland.

According to her candidate profile on the party’s website, after years of persecution due to her cannabis use, she decided to run for parliament to help invoke change.

Ms Adams

said legalising cannabis in the Sunshine State could generate “billions” of dollars for the economy.

As a result, Ms Adams said the Queensland economy would have more capacity to fund schools, hospitals, roads, welfare and agriculture - all through legalising cannabis.

Ms Adams said this was part of the party’s “one policy for many issues” approach.

When asked to cite where she sourced the billion dollar figure, she said she “was not too sure,” but said cannabis legalisation in some US states has had billion-dollar ripple effects for the economy.

She conceded the US has a much higher population than Australia, but said her point still stood that legalising cannabis would be a positive.

She pointed to the Queensland judicial system, which she said was under a lot of pressure, which would be eased if cannabis were made legal.

She said her own experience with the Queensland criminal system made her all the more passionate for the cause.
