Packs collated for those doing it tough

WHILE this time of year is for many an occasion of family, food and friends, for many it is difficult.

For women and families escaping domestic violence situations, it can be a trying time of year, which is why the Zonta club of Roma has reached out to the local community for its help.

Setting up a stall outside Woolworths on Saturday, Zonta volunteers, as part of a 16-day campaign saying no to violence, set up a display and asked shoppers to donate items to care packs.

The care packs are assembled then donated to various domestic violence support services in Roma and the southwest.

Harry and Violet Humphreys were more than eager to help out, choosing their own items for the packs.

Zonta member Heather Hall said it was great to see young people turn out to help.

"These young people epitomise the generosity of our local community when the need to support others is asked for,” she said.

Ms Hall said during the three hours the stall was set up, many people donated personal care products for the packs.

"In total, we had enough to fill more than 30 packs, which we will donate to the various providers and the DV shelter here in Roma,” she said.

"We do this as a club project around four times a year, and we will continue to do this again in 2019.”
