THE 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month – a moment to remember all those who served and sacrificed in wars and conflicts since the guns fell silent on the Western Front.

Remembrance Day falls on Monday this year and RSL subbranches will host services across the Maranoa providing residents an opportunity to pay homage.

Maranoa MP David Littleproud said he encouraged the local community to participate in the anniversary of the Armistice that ended the fighting in the First World War.

“I encourage communities across Maranoa observe one minute’s silence at 11am to remember the Australian service men and women who have suffered and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations,” Mr Littleproud said.

“The war came at a great cost for Australia with more than 60,000 servicemen and women never returning home, from the 416,000 who enlisted.

“This affected cities and towns across Australia and certainly had a huge effect on families in Maranoa with so many from our region having served.

“I remind people across Maranoa to continue the Remembrance Day tradition by paying tribute to those who have proudly served our nation in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations by attending a local commemorative service and wearing a red poppy in honour of the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women.”
