Students learn in 'real world'

Roma State College students go to work for the week.

THIS week students from Roma State College went on work experience.

Work experience allows students to experience what it is like in the workforce for one week.

It also allows students to work in some of the jobs they might have chosen for their future and to determine whether or not they would like to work full time in that particular job.

I interviewed Matthew Blair as part of my work experience at The Western Star.

Matthew did his work placement at the Roma Computer centre.

During Matthew's time in the store, he experienced what it is like to work at the front and out the back of a store.

Matthew believed that everyone should participate in work experience.

"It's good to learn what it is like in the real world,” Matthew said.

He said work experience had helped him to determine whether or not he would like to work in IT.

"Well it's a fairly simple job, easy to do. if I don't know anything, I just ask my co-workers for help,” Matthew said.

Completing work experience in the technology industry was a natural choice for Matthew.

"Well, I've always been a bit of a computer geek and a gamer for quite some time,” he said.

"As a gamer it is important to have a really good understanding of PCs.”

Matthew said he enjoyed work experience at Roma Computer centre.

He said it had been a fun week.

So where does Matthew see himself in 10 years' time?

"Honestly, I'm not really sure, what I will be doing in 10 years,” Matthew said.

"I'm sure it'll be good whatever it is.”
