Selling pens construction well under way

The first of 1000 post holes have begun.

PROGRESS is has been made on the $2.173million first stage of the Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan with the first of 1000 post holes dug on-site over the past few weeks.

The joint initiative of Maranoa Regional Council and the Queensland Government have started the post holes for the new selling pens and drafts, which will be constructed on the eastern side of the yards.

Councillor Peter Flynn, portfolio chair for Roma Saleyards said now that the new workshop has been completed by Brett Pollock Constructions Pty Ltd, construction of the new selling pens and drafts is in full swing.

"With the improvements set to increase productivity, reduce cattle movements and improve cattle flow within the facility, we are looking forward to the completion of these new pens and drafts,” Cr Flynn said.

Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said he applauded the Maranoa Regional Council on getting these important works under way.

"The Queensland Government is proud to play its part through $1.3million allocated from the job-creating Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program towards Stage 1 of the Roma Saleyards Improvement Plan,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

Completion of stage one is anticipated to be in February 2019.
