MARANOA Shire Council reached a turning point on Monday night, launching it's latest effort to expand the region's tourism sector.

Conferences & Events in the Maranoa - A Planner's Guide was launched at the Royal Hotel in front of councillors, guests from Roma's business community, and Local Government Association of Queensland President, Mark Jamieson.

Cr Cameron O'Neill, whose portfolio includes events, said the guide is a way of bringing business-related tourism to town.

"It's important for us as a council to look at how to diversify the industry bases that make up the Maranoa.

"We have a growing tourism industry here, and council has been considering what else we can do

"We've ended up looking at an events prospectus to showcase all the assets we have for events and conferences.”

What does the guide include?

Conferences and Events in the Maranoa - A Planner's Guide is, in part, a directory of local businesses.

It lists venues, restuarants and catering businesses, attractions, sporting facilities, accommodation and transport options for planners who may be considering holding a function in the Maranoa region.

The guide is available through council service centres, and can also be accessed online here.
